About Nasir Group

Nasir Group is one of the largest industrial conglomerates in Bangladesh. The industries include industrial glass, tobacco, printing and packages, light engineering, melamine. It is one of the leading industries in glass manufacturing sector of the country. The company started its journey in 1977. Now this group expands in every industrial sectors of Bangladesh like tobacco, melamine, printing and packaging and footwear. Recently it started producing energy saving light bulbs. Nasir group has a great role in socio-economic development of the country.

Dominance in Glass Sector
Glass is one of the products of Nasir Group of Industry. Nasir group has a vital role to make Bangladesh self-sufficient in glass sector. This company provides a large portion of glasses to meet country’s demand. Nasir group started float glass production in 2005. The company built its glass manufacturing factory in Gazipur at a cost of Tk.300 crore. Nasir Glass now holds more than 40 percent of the total market share and company produces every year around 73000 tonnes of glass, including float, shades, tempered and reflective ones.  Its total annual sales volume US $1Million – US $2.5Million and the main exporting markets are North America, South America, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Eastern Asia, Southeast Asia, Mid East, Africa, and Oceania.

About Nasir Uddin Biswas 
Nasir Uddin Biswas is the founder of Nasir group of Industries. He came from an ordinary farmer family in Kusthia. He completed his graduation in commerce. He always wanted to be a businessman. In 1975, Nasir Udiddin Biswas started business with the help of Akij Uddin, the founder of Akij group, by supplying tobacco to Dhaka Tobacco company. But business relation with Akij group did not last long due misunderstanding. In 1977, Nasir Uddin Biswas set up North Bengal Plastic Industry in Kusthia. In 1982, he set up a sports shoe factory in Dhaka. Since then, his hardworking, dream and integrity help him to be one of the successful business people in the country. In 2012, the relentless efforts to contribute to the country’s economy, Nasir Uddin Biswas got prestigious recognition as a part of “Bangladesh Business Award”

In 2006, the chairman Nasir Uddin Biswas indented to contest in the National Election under the banner of Bangladesh National Party. He claimed him as worth candidate among other BNP leader. In 2001 , he also sought BNP nomination from the constituency in  parliamentary election and 2004 by-election but was not given.

How it become a big company
Nasir group was not established in a day. After long struggle, with the skilled hand and thought of Nasir Uddin Biswas, this company now came in this present position. Nasir group has expanded its branches in almost all business and industrial sector. The company employed 23000 people in its nine unit of business contributing a great role to eliminated unemployment of the country. Nasir group is also the largest melamine producer in the country. With nearly Tk 2,000 crore in annual turnover, Nasir group set excellent repayment standards over the years and become a preferred client for banks. It pays a monthly average of Tk 13 crore in VAT to the national exchequer.

Corporate Social Responsibility
Along with the contributing to the economic development of the country, Nasir group rendered its hand to social development and works. From 2008 to 2013, Nasir group spent Tk 5 crore out of corporate social responsibility. It has set up many educational institutes in Kusthia to enlighten the people of the area.  It has also set up a hospital for providing health services to the poor.

Growing business
In 2008, Nasir Glass Industries Limited said it had exported more than Tk 20 crore worth of glass. In the same year, Prime Bank lent Tk 100 crore as a syndicated term loan over a period of six years in bid to development its glass plant. In 2009, it opened around Tk 100 crore worth of letter of credits for importing machinery and equipment to set up a glassware plant in Tangail. In this project Citibank NA had also arranged Tk 140 crore loans for Nasir Glassware and Tube Industries at a 12 percent interest rate. In 209, Nasir group planned to set up three new different types of industries to expand its business activities to a wide variety of areas. In 2012, the group announced that it would invest an additional Tk 10 crore to produce burners for its locally-produced energy saving light bulbs. The diversified Nasir Group has decided to set up three new different types of industries- pharmaceutical plant, a BOPP (plastic material) making unit and a fertilizer factory to expand its business activities to a wide variety of areas. In 2015, Nasir Glass Industries issued secured Commercial Paper of BDT 1000 million.
