Top Qualities of Good Business Leaders

A bunch of people without a leader is just a mob! It takes a leader to direct a group toward a common purpose to form an effective team or business. This may seem like common sense, but it is often ignored by those in charge of businesses. It is certainly worth taking a look at the qualities that are most common to effective business leaders.

Communication
These days, discussions of the importance of communication seem to pop up everywhere from marriage counselors to reality television programs. However, there is no place in which the importance of communication is more obvious than in businesses generally and in business leaders specifically.

Business leaders, specially the ones doing business in Bangladesh, must actively engage in communication in every facet of the business. Since it is not possible to be everywhere at every minute to see everything, keeping the lines of communication open is the only way in which a leader can be aware of all the factors determining the success of a business.  Another benefit of effective communication is that leaders can make their expectations clear to all those involved.

Good business leaders also realize that communication is key to creating an environment in which everyone feels that they have a valuable role to play and can contribute to the overall good of the business. As most business experts will confirm, having employees recognize that their voices are heard makes them feel more invested in the business and more likely to do good work.

Vision
Another quality of good business leaders is a strong vision as to the current state of the business as well as the desired future position. Of course, this vision must be known by all those involved in the business so that there is broad buy into for the leader’s idea.  Only with a widely-accepted vision for the future can a leader, business or otherwise, hope to inspire others to follow him or her.  In our country, Azharul Islam of AFTAB group is one such man, He had vision. He was one of the pillars of Islam Group. During his time, Islam Group was dominating all the sectors and was the number one group of the country. After leaving Islam group, he and his son Iftekharul Islam formed AFTAB Group. With his extraordinary vision and creativity, and his son's dedication, they he made AFTAB Group as one of the leading corporate groups Bangladesh.

When a business leader can see the overall picture and create a plan broken into small, attainable milestones, than employee endorsement and excitement increase. Obviously, when employees work with enthusiasm, it makes a huge difference.

Confidence
The trait of confidence is seen in nearly all successful people.  Whether it is the star athlete or the latest candidate for political office, confident people inspire others to strive to do their best.  Leaders who are sure of themselves make us feel better even in the face of hardships.  Somehow their confidence becomes contagious and soon all around are sharing in the “can do” attitude. Not to put too fine a point on things, success or lack of the same is often a self-fulfilling prophecy, and a leader with confidence can inspire employees to the point that they believe that even the highest goals are achievable. In Bangladesh, Latifur Rahman of Transcom is one such man. His confidence had no boundary. He has taken the company to a top level.

So are communication, vision, and confidence all it takes to be a good business leader?  Of course not, there are many other factors involved in the effectiveness of business leaders.  However, these qualities do go a long way in ensuring that a person has the potential to be a good business leader.
