Bangladeshi companies: Building bridges with better work culture

“Corporate culture! What is that?” There are many people who ask this question in spite of working several years in the corporate world. In spite of being crucially important, this motion is many a times left in ignorance and indifference. If you close your eyes doesn’t mean everyone else doesn’t see you. What I mean to state is, unawareness does not make corporate culture less important, and thus every corporate member must be aware of the concept of corporate culture and ways to make it healthier. Initiating the discussion, first let us understand what corporate culture is and go to its depth.

The part of business involving employee attitudes, standards, policies and procedures, rites and rituals can be assumed as corporate culture. Although it is connected to the surrounding environment yet it has some unique traits as well. It can be negative, positive or even neutral. In most cases it is dynamic and changes with time but it can also be static sometimes. In a nutshell corporate culture is a set of features that define a business.

Is it presence in Bangladesh companies? Yes, it is. Big corporate companies of Bangladesh including Beximco Group, ACI Group, Square Group already have a corporate culture running. Mid size companies are also coming up.

Due to entrance of multinational companies, there is a huge variety of corporate work culture eventually making the Bangladeshi market interesting and quite a stand out. Along with that, the productivity has increased many folds. So, it can be said that when the work culture is healthy it readily leads to satisfied employees and an elevated rate of productivity.

Now, that being clarified, we will evaluate a few suggestions that have the potential to improve the work culture at any business company in general.

Dos of work culture development
·     Make sure that the employees are amiable with each other. Moreover, a routine inquiry and conferencewith the employees regarding their problems can be coordinated. Obviously, the last thing anybody wants is a sulking employee.

·         Ensure non-biased evaluation of the corporate members. Keeping personal relationships in the back seat, the business should be coordinated very professionally.

·         Appreciation and communication is the key to a good work environment and a healthy work culture. So appreciate the good performances and arrange for praise the deserved openly .Then the other employees will be motivated as well.

·        Maintenance of a friendly relation and good communication between the employer and the employees is very important as well.

·         Awareness regarding work culture should be spread for a united effort of the employer and the other members.

The absolute don’ts
There are some things that are never to be practiced at the office. They never help improve work culture, rather worsens it.

·         The dictatorship attitude should be zipped in a bag before coming to work. Making the workers feel dominated will do well to no one, not the workers, not the business and certainly not the employer.

·         Too much strictness should never be implemented in the office. Listening to the worker’s personal problem and consider them when possible will make the workers make at home in the company and along the way improve the work culture. Indifference won’t help.

At last it can be commenced that work culture plays an important role in extracting the best out of employees and making them stick to the organization for a longer duration and thus it should get its deserved importance.
