Salman F Rahman ensures foreign investment

Right after his appointment as the private industries and investment adviser to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Salman F Rahman is meeting diplomats, foreign businessman, trade specialists, investors everyday. His mission is straight forward - highlighting Bangladesh's position as a place for investment.

Recently, Salman F Rahman, who is also one of the most successful businessmen of Bangladesh, met Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Riva Ganguly Das, Ambassador of Republic of Korea Hu Kang-il and Consul of Singapore to Bangladesh William Chik to discuss various issues including trade and investment. All the meeting were successful. Successful in a sense that all parties agreed that Bangladesh has became a true destination for investment.

She discussed ways of increasing Indian investment in Bangladesh. Indian Deputy High Commissioner Bishwadip Dey was also present during the meeting. And during the meeting with South Korean envoy, Salman F Rahman highlighted the friendly and bilateral ties between the two countries. They also exchanged souvenirs.

The Indian high commissioner, after the meeting told reporters that - “We have several areas to improve the bilateral trade and commerce between Bangladesh and India that we share with each other,”

It is certain that Salman F Rahman is an asset to Awami League and Bangladesh. His understanding of global markets and subsequent experience of almost four decades in unmatchable. His expertise and clear vision helps the government achieve its goal of developing a sustainable and developed country. It is expected that his political involvement will act as a catalyst for the country in achieving Vision 2041.

Salman F Rahman has been advising Prime Minister and Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina on private sector development affairs over the past several years. In addition to his advisory role, he also headed the apex trade body FBCCI in mid 1990s.

The has been quite eventful for Salman F Rahman. Being the Vice-Chairman of Beximco and a leading businessman of Bangladesh, Salman has been pivotal in Beximco’s global growth and has been a catalyst in the country’s growth.

Bangladesh Supermarket Owners’ Association demands a uniform VAT rate

Bangladesh Supermarket Owners’ Association, otherwise known as BSOA requested NBR for implementing a uniform VAT rate for all retail super shops of the country. This request is made so that they can continue the business in full pace. The government applies a 4% VAT on sales of various supermarkets including Agora, Shwapno and Meena Bazar while authorities imposed a package VAT system to general shops according to their sizes and locations. Bangladesh Supermarket Owners’ Association prefers paying VAT on per square feet rate. Customers do not like to pay 4% VAT on sales because general shops pay a flat VAT rate. The BSOA demanded the government either withdraws 4% VAT or implement package VAT system. It says in its statement that otherwise this discrimination will gradually destroy this sector. In comparison with similar markets, in Indonesia, there are 14000 stores of only two chain supermarkets and 3000 are in India. Even, in Sri Lanka, there are 1000 stores while Bangladesh h
