A BUET team visits Beximco group's Vertical Leeds Green Certified Industrial Park

A Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) team recently visited Beximco group's Vertical Leeds Green Certified Industrial Park last week. The team was led by the Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) Professor Satya Prasad Majumder. From Beximco Group's side, Chairman A. S. F. Rahman and Beximco Group Director and CEO Syed Naved Husain welcomed the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology team.


The Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology team was highly impressed by Beximco group's initiatives on value addition and innovation using advanced technology, education and R&D. The BUET team was very keen to be updated on Beximco's initiatives on sustainability including collaboration with recovertex, product development, optimization and sutomation, state of the art effluent treatment plant and the most advanced and largest sustainable washing plant with most advanced technologies under one roof in South Asia. Beximco operates one of the largest integrated textile production businesses in Asia. It is also a major exporter of jute yarn. Its main manufacturing base is the Beximco Industrial Park in Gazipur, Bangladesh. Beximco Pharma, the group's pharmaceutical producer, was the first Bangladeshi company to be listed on the London Stock Exchange.

After the visit, the Vice-Chancellor of BUET and his team said they were very impressed to see Shinepukur Ceramics. Shinepukur Ceramics produces fine Porcelain and high-end Bone-China to customers including Royal Doulton, Royal Albert. Also, they were overwhelmed after visiting Beximco Health PPE Industrial Park which is completely vertical starting from PP Chips and producing Meltblown fabrics as well as high level fabrics for Surgical and Isolation Gowns, as well as Surgical masks and Respirator Masks. Dr. Mohidus Samad Khan, The Executive Director and The Head of Beximco Health PPE Plant was present to show them all the PPE manufacturing facilities inside the Beximco Health PPE Industrial Park.

The BUET team also visited INTERTEK, which is a 130-year-old leader in laboratory testing office at the Beximco Health PPE Industrial Park. Intertek and BEXIMCO jointly developed a PPE Center of Excellence at BEXIMCO HEALTH PPE Industrial Park, the most advanced PPE lab capable of testing all levels to comply with US, EU and UK standards. Till today, this lab is South Asia's most advanced Independent PPE Laboratory with both comprehensive testing facilities including microbiological testing.

Beximco Group is a multinational conglomerate holding company, headquartered in Dhaka, Bangladesh, with the capacity to export products to 55 countries worldwide. The company was founded in the early 1970s by brothers A. S. F. Rahman and Salman F Rahman. Bangladesh Supermarket Owners’ Association demands a uniform VAT rate

Bangladesh Supermarket Owners’ Association, otherwise known as BSOA requested NBR for implementing a uniform VAT rate for all retail super shops of the country. This request is made so that they can continue the business in full pace. The government applies a 4% VAT on sales of various supermarkets including Agora, Shwapno and Meena Bazar while authorities imposed a package VAT system to general shops according to their sizes and locations. Bangladesh Supermarket Owners’ Association prefers paying VAT on per square feet rate. Customers do not like to pay 4% VAT on sales because general shops pay a flat VAT rate. The BSOA demanded the government either withdraws 4% VAT or implement package VAT system. It says in its statement that otherwise this discrimination will gradually destroy this sector.
