Kobelco Welding enters Bangladesh

A Japanese leading company all over the world, Kobelco Welding which is a group company of Kobe Steel Limited situated in Japan has recently declared that they are going to enter in Bangladesh for business keeping an eye on the development of shipbuilding industry in Bangladesh recently. That is why welding equipments is started to be set in the Western Marine Shipyard which is known to be country’s leading shipbuilders. This is done through the dealers of local area TSI Marine Ltd.

Bangladesh welding companies are mostly prevailed by the manual machineries that are a cause of lagging behind. But nowadays as the industries are advancing, the need of automated equipments is rising. So it can be said that the situations will change.

The company looking forward to setting up a business in our country is about a hundred years old and very popular. It is remarked as Japans fifth largest and fifteenth largest steelmaking company in the world. The company has 36,000 people working for it all around the world. It also has a turnover of $16 billion every year. It is estimated that the 40% of the turnover comes from steel business, more 55 from welding materials and remaining other from other segments which also includes constructing materials.

The demand of welding material from Bangladesh is calculated to be 70,000 tones annually which are expected to get higher in future as the development of shipbuilding industry is very fast nowadays.

Previously in February 20, 2015, TSI Marine Limited was chosen for marketing and the distribution of the welding materials of Kobelco. The estimated amount of materials for sale all over the country in Bangladesh for various sectors is 100 tonnes. These equipments will come from one of the plants of Kobelco in Singapore.

The company was founded in 1905 and it is built up of many equity valued and centralized company in Japan, America, Asia and Europe. It also has its plants set up in different countries like India, Thailand, Europe, Korea, Singapore, and Malaysia and of course Japan.

Bangladesh Supermarket Owners’ Association demands a uniform VAT rate

Bangladesh Supermarket Owners’ Association, otherwise known as BSOA requested NBR for implementing a uniform VAT rate for all retail super shops of the country. This request is made so that they can continue the business in full pace. The government applies a 4% VAT on sales of various supermarkets including Agora, Shwapno and Meena Bazar while authorities imposed a package VAT system to general shops according to their sizes and locations. Bangladesh Supermarket Owners’ Association prefers paying VAT on per square feet rate. Customers do not like to pay 4% VAT on sales because general shops pay a flat VAT rate. The BSOA demanded the government either withdraws 4% VAT or implement package VAT system. It says in its statement that otherwise this discrimination will gradually destroy this sector.
